Why We Considered a Domestic Cleaning Service

For years, we’ve handled the cleaning ourselves. Most of that time, we lived in apartments. But back in July, we bought our first house. During the summer, it was manageable—both my wife and I were home, so we shared the chores while watching the kids.

However, everything changed in the fall when my wife returned to work (she’s in education). Since then, keeping the house clean has become increasingly difficult.

We’re not talking about a disaster zone—nothing like what you’d see on an episode of Hoarders. But regular tasks like dusting, cleaning under furniture, and deep scrubbing were falling through the cracks.

The Time and Energy Factor

We could have worked harder to keep things clean. But cleaning requires two things we lack: time and energy. With three young kids, our days are packed with errands, classes, and simply taking care of their needs.

By the time the weekend rolls around, we want to spend quality time together as a family—not cleaning the bathroom grout. And while I do my best during the day, our youngest (just 21 months old) keeps me on my toes. Leaving her unattended to scrub a shower just isn’t an option.

Our First Professional Cleaning Service Experience

That’s when we decided to hire a local house cleaning company for a deep clean service. The first visit was intense—they sent a team of two at first, but eventually, six cleaners were working in our home.

They cleaned everything: under the beds, behind the books, inside the oven, and even the bathroom ceilings. The job took about 4.5 hours—and they did a fantastic job!

Honestly, it made us think: if it takes a team of pros several hours to clean thoroughly, how long would it take us, with limited time and no help?

The Benefits of Hiring a Cleaning Service

We were thrilled with the results. Not only was our house spotless, but we also felt a huge weight lifted off our shoulders. Having a clean home eliminated one major source of stress.

While they cleaned, my wife took the kids out, and I stayed home to supervise. During that time, I managed to make serious progress on my growing business. In other words, hiring a cleaning service saved us time, which I used productively.

This reinforces a key point: time is money. Yes, the cleaning cost us, but the time we gained in return was extremely valuable.

Is a Cleaning Service Right for You?

It depends on your lifestyle, home size, and budget. If you can keep up with cleaning and want to save money, doing it yourself makes sense. But for families like ours, where time is tight and energy is limited, outsourcing is a smart solution.

We’re not wealthy. Hiring cleaners wasn’t easy on the wallet, especially with other financial priorities. But we also don’t believe you need to be rich to afford help. If you’re drowning in credit card debt, this might not be the best investment right now—but if you can make it work, it can be worth it.

Our Plan Moving Forward

We plan to have the cleaning service return monthly. The deep clean was a one-time cost; future cleanings will be lighter and more affordable. Of course, we’ll still maintain the home between visits, but we won’t have to do everything ourselves.

So far, the experience has been incredibly positive. For us, the cost was absolutely worth it.
